Plants WebQuest

Introduction:

First, you have an opportunity to explore different types of jobs related to plants. Choose which job you would like to do:

Botanist: A scientist that studies plants. You have discovered a new plant that has special medicinal properties that cure bug bites. You will need to draw a picture of your new plant, give it a name, and label its parts. Make a drawing or replication of the life cycle of your plant including what it's seed looks like. Last, complete a plant log.

Gardener: A person who grows plants, designs decorative gardens and protects plant species. Design a decorative garden for the White House. Draw and label the brand new "Presidential Morning Rose". Make a drawing or replication of the life cycle of your plant including what it's seed looks like. Last, complete a plant log.

Landscape Architect: A person who designs parks, public gardens and other public land spaces. Who have decided to redesign an old park in Roseto. Draw a picture of the old park and then draw a picture of the new park. Include the new plants you will put in this park. Also, you have discoverd a native Roseto flower when you were digging up the old plants. Draw a picture of this "Roseto Beauty" and label its parts. Make a drawing or replication of the life cycle of your plant including what it's seed looks like. Last, complete a plant log.

Florist: A person who grows and sells plants. They also design wedding bouquets, baby vases, and floral arrangements for special occasions. You have been asked to arrange a floral arrangement for the last day of school celebration. Include in your floral design a new flower named "Oreo" in honor of Mrs. Layton. Make a drawing or replication of the life cycle of your plant including what it's seed looks like. Last, complete a plant log.

Process:

You will use the following websites to help you understand the important roles of each plant part. Read through the interactive pages to gain as much information as you can to assist you in your new job. You may use any materials in the room to present your final project to the class. Please ask to see what materials are in the closet for your use.

Objectives:

To find out about plants that make seeds.

Learn what the four reproductive parts of plants do. (sepal, pistil, stamen, pollen)

Learn how pollination and fertilization occur.

Learn the life cycle of a flowering plant.

Grading:

Follow the rubric guidelines in your plant log.
